Ranjana Nair joins Levison Meltzer Pigott

We welcome Ranjana Nair as the latest addition to the LMP team.

Ranjana joins LMP having qualified as a solicitor with Charles Russell Speechlys in August last year and then gaining further family law experience with a specialist firm.

She advises on divorce and separation, finances and children matters, pre-nuptial, post-nuptial and cohabitation agreements.

LMP founding partner Simon Pigott welcomes Ranjana to the team:

“We are delighted that Ranjana has joined us. As a boutique firm, my partners and I take recruitment very seriously as the lawyers we recruit at this entry level are to be the future of the firm, the partners of tomorrow. We wish Ranjana a very long and successful career with LMP.”

FJC Financial Needs Working Group: Guidance for litigants in person on financial needs – second edition just published

Simon Pigott has continued in his role as a member of The Family Justice Council Financial Needs Working Group, which was established to promote an inter-disciplinary approach to family justice.

The current group of sixteen family lawyers, now chaired by Mr Justice Peel, has reviewed and updated its guide on Sorting Out Finances on Divorce.

The second edition of this guide which was first published in 2016, is now available on the Family Justice Council website. As highlighted by Sir Andrew McFarlane in his foreword, the guide is intended to help Litigants in Person who do not have the means to afford legal advice and are faced with unfamiliar practice and law when attempting to negotiate settlement and navigate their way through the daunting court process.

LMP partners in The Spear’s 500 2024

The Spear’s 500 2024 has been published. It is the ninth edition of the guide which is described by Spear’s as “ the definitive resource for HNWs in search of the highest-quality specialist advice and services to support their work, their lives, their families and their ambitions.”
This is the second year running that all five of the partners at Levison Meltzer Pigott have been included in this annual ranking.  Spear’s highlights the fact each one of the advisers included earns their selection on merit.
So we congratulate all five partners:  the ‘utterly brilliant’ Jeremy Levison and Simon Pigott noted for his ‘plain-speaking wisdom’, who are both recognised as “Top Recommended”; Alison Hayes with her ‘low-key and informal’ style, “no-nonsense approach” and “spot on” judgment; Kate Stovold described as “experienced in handling court battles but also an advocate of alternative resolution methods” and Ben Stowe, with “a real gift of pragmatism” and “gravitas beyond his years”, who are all recognised as “Recommended”.

Tatler Address Book 2024 – Alison Hayes once more listed for Family Law

This “definitive directory” lists everyone from “pre-eminent Harley Street cosmetic surgeons and the chicest wedding suppliers to country-pursuit purveyors, the finest private-client advisors and the most important educational establishments – all with the Tatler seal of approval.”

We are happy to confirm that LMP partner Alison Hayes continues to be listed in this “bespoke hub of private client advisers” for Family Law.

Have divorces been delayed by the cost of living crisis? Ben Stowe debates the Legal & General’s findings on Times Radio

Benjamin Stowe started the new year as an expert guest on Times Radio.

On the 2nd January, Ben, calling on his mobile from a train in Wakefield, joined Ed Vaizey, sitting in for Mariella Frostrup, to debate the validity of the Legal & General report that this year, because of the current cost of living crisis, more than 270,000 couples have delayed splitting up.

The Legal & General research claimed that financial pressures delayed 19% of divorces this year citing the impact has been particularly pronounced since 2020, as a result of income concerns, cost of living pressures and the price of divorce.

Ben did not quite agree with the findings stating that in his experience, whilst financial pressures may impact on the health of a relationship, pressures are more likely, rather than less likely to result in clients turning to him for advice. Ben suggested that financial pressures “drive people to divorce rather than postpone it”. He also stressed that these financial pressures are “never-ending” citing the Covid pandemic, Brexit and the recession.

Co-expert, psychotherapist Lucy Beresford, concurred with Ben that there have always been financial pressures which delay divorce but feels that it is more about new year being a turning point when people reflect how they want their lives to be.

LMP is one of The Times Best Law Firms 2024

Levison Meltzer Pigott (LMP) is once again recognised in The Times’ list of the top 250 legal practices in England and Wales. Only 250 of the 9,425 firms in England and Wales made the cut. Each of the firms in this prestigious list has been commended by its peers in other law firms.

Listed within the Family category, and one of only 52 firms recognised, this is what is said about LMP:

“Work completed by the Levison Meltzer Pigott team over the past year continues to reflect a strong emphasis on complex financial and international matters, often involving locating hidden assets and trust structures.”

The research was carried out by Statista, an international market research firm, which asked solicitors  to recommend the best law firms in any of 28 categories covering business, public and private-client fields. To make sure that the survey was fair, respondents were not allowed to choose their own law firm and technology and other scrutiny was put in place to prevent anyone from voting more than once. Those with the most votes from more than 4,300 respondents made it into The Times Best Law Firms 2024.

The full list of 250 firms was published in today’s Times online and the full results can be accessed online here, by those who have a subscription.

Levison Meltzer Pigott (LMP) has once again been recognised within eprivateclient’s ‘Top Family Law Firms’, the detailed annual guide to the leading law firms providing family law advice in the UK.

Now in its eighth year, the 2023 eprivateclient Top Family Law Firms features 70 firms in total but the analysis is divided between two tables: those firms considered “full service” and those which are “boutique”.

There are 25 firms highlighted as boutique firms and LMP is one of only 13 firms to be ranked in the top division, Tier I. In addition, LMP is one of only 10 firms highlighted as focussing exclusively on family law.

Simon Pigott, Managing Partner, says of this latest accolade: “We founded LMP in 1998 to be “boutique”; to offer a more personal and bespoke family law service than that usually allowed by the policies and processes of the larger full-service firms. As a firm, we have always adhered to these founding principles and ethos to remain “partner-led”, “client -focused” and to provide a creative working environment for our diligent, kind and balanced team of lawyers and support staff. We celebrated LMP’s 25th anniversary this year and it is a credit to the firm as a whole that we are once again recognised by eprivateclient as a leading boutique firm. Each person plays their part in the ongoing success of LMP.”
